PSN602 is an oral monoamine reuptake inhibitor combined with serotonin-1A agonism, being developed for the treatment of obesity. It was chosen as a pre-clinical candidate from our S1RUP (Serotonin-1A plus monoamine ReUPtake inhibition) program, a central nervous system targeted approach for the long-term treatment of obesity. The use of monoamine reuptake inhibitors like sibutramine has been limited by their association with increases in heart rate and blood pressure and it is anticipated that by adding serotonin-1A agonism, these unfavorable effects will potentially be prevented. PSN602 has been shown to reduce food intake and body weight in gold standard rodent models of obesity. It is currently undergoing pre-clinical safety assessment prior to entry into human studies.
